David Fursdon Becomes Patron of Devon FA

His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant joins our County FA as a patron.

We are delighted to officially announce David Fursdon, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Devon as our inaugural Patron of Devon County Football Association. 

The Lord Lieutenant officially opened our 3G facility at Coach Road in 2022 and since then has been working with our Chair and Chief Executive Officer on understanding the role of the County FA and our Devon Football Family.  This new position within the County FA will support us to engage with new stakeholders and discuss strategic priorities both on and off the pitch.

David Fursdon, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, said “I am really pleased to have been invited to become Patron of the Devon FA. I have seen the positive impact of football on individuals and communities and welcome the opportunity to become involved in the game at all levels in the County. I know the King would approve of me taking up this position”.

John Street, Chair of Devon FA said “I’m delighted that His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Devon, David Fursdon, has agreed to take up the position of patron of DCFA.  This will allow the message of ensuring grassroots football in Devon remains at the heart of the community, to be promoted at events that he attends across the County, and beyond, and of course it is appropriate given that His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as President of the FA at a national level.  I look forward to working with the Lord Lieutenant to help achieve our goals of making football in Devon accessible to all.”
