Business Cup 2023

We held our inaugural Business Cup event at Coach Road on Friday 30th June.

”We started poor and cocky, but then we came good and boy were we good!!!” was the words of A & S Interiors Managing Director, Andy Feaver, Team Manager, celebrated his team of gladiators at A & S, lift the first ever Devon FA Business Cup.

Eight teams, seventeen fixtures, eighty players, four match officials and many supporters all came together last Friday night for just over two hours at Coach Road to battle it out for the first ever Devon FA Business Cup Competition.

A competition played on a seven-a-side base with three rolling subs kicked off at 6.30pm and boy did those spectators see some football. A mix of hard-core players together with those that were only remembering how they used to play was the menu of the tournament, played in a competitive but friendly atmosphere.

Every team that played were all guaranteed four games to play and controlled and managed by the Devon FA volunteers and match officials.

Competition Manager, Paul Morrison was delighted with the standard, turnout and support shown by all involved.  “what a terrific tournament we have had tonight, and all finished perfectly on time, my thanks to all of our sponsors for taking up the invite to play”. We have another tournament scheduled for later in the year, around November/December time and that will be our Winter Business Cup.

On the field it was who could stop the Devon FA and Pro Direct teams who both played very well, winning their individual groups, and progressing into the Semi Finals with ease.

Joining them were the teams from Corner Flag SNS, a team that played lovely, controlled football at times and A & S Interiors who squeezed through thanks to a final group match victory over Bayside.

Nat West Bank, Scott Richards Solicitors, Bayside Graphics and MJ Evans & Co all played their part in the group stages but on this occasion were not strong enough to qualify for the Semi Finals.

The Semi Finals gave us a very tight affair between Devon FA and Corner Flag with only the winning goal for Devon FA coming in the final 15 seconds of the game. A one-sided Semi Final saw the rise and confidence of A & S Interiors grow as they defeated Pro Direct 3-1 to book their place in the Final.

Manager of Pro Direct, Kenny Griffiths, commented on how he loved the competition “it was a great way for our company to team up staff that we have only seen now again, bear in mind we have a lot of staff spread around Pro Direct and the team building from this was great fun”

The Final saw the skill of the A & S Interiors players flow and they easily swept aside a gallant Devon FA team 7-1 to win the Cup, despite Devon going in front with the first goal. It was sweet revenge for A & S who amazingly lost 3-0 to Devon FA in their earlier group match.
