Taking Care Devon Walking Football League Kicks-Off New Season

The Taking Care Devon Walking Football League kicked-off its new season yesterday at Manadon Sports Hub in Plymouth

The Devon Walking Football league kicked-off yesterday in Plymouth, as 17 teams travelled to Manadon Sports Hub to take part in the first round of fixtures for the new season.

The new season is sponsored by Taking Care, part of AXA Health and the largest private provider of personal alarms in the UK.  A personal alarm helps give the confidence needed to stay active, helping maintain health and mobility.

Steve Gates, Managing Director of Taking Care, explained how sponsoring the Devon FA’s Walking Football League fits well with Taking Care’s approach to promoting an active lifestyle:

“We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Devon FA’s Walking Football because we absolutely understand the benefits of staying active as we get a little older. Our personal alarms help thousands of older adults remain independent and for many, it is a life-saving service because it provides a way to quickly get help should they fall or have an accident at home or when they are out-and-about.”

“The risk of injury from falls increases as we get older and 1-in-3 over 65s have a fall every year. Many people who fall develop a fear of falling and become less active. Staying active as we age improves both physical and mental health and activities such as Walking Football reduce the risk of falling by improving strength and balance. We know from talking to our personal alarm customers that having a healthy social life is also a really important factor in maintaining a great quality of life. Meeting up with friends to play football is a great way to keep active, physically and socially.”

Taking Care’s personal alarms are monitored 24 hours a day by dedicated Emergency Resolution Teams in Exeter and Ashburton. Taking Care’s personal alarms include a personal alarm smartwatch with GPS tracking that works anywhere in the UK. Visit www.taking.care to join the life-saving personal alarm service with a 30-day home trial or get your free Falls Risk Score.

All the teams had a great day and were delighted to be back playing once again.

The next round of fixtures are at Okehampton on Sunday 7th November.
