Queens on Cloud Nine After Sunday Senior Win

Queen & Constitution win the Stitchy3Sixty Devon Sunday Senior Cup Final

Stitch 3 Sixty Devon Sunday Senior Cup Final

Queen and Constitution 9 v 0 Horrabridge  Rangers

Played at Coach Road, Newton Abbot 6/6/2021

Having the tag of favourites before the game did not phase the Queen players one iota as they swept a plucky Horrabridge team aside on the 3G pitch at Devon FA Headquarters. Three up after twenty minutes, through a brace from Ashley Piggott and a single from Dave Smith, the writing was soon on the wall and despite some plucky defending, there was no answer to the power of this Queen and Constitution team who created danger every time they attacked.

They were given freedom of both flanks and indeed that was the undoing of the Horrabridge defence who just could not deal with the crosses to any effect.

The goal glut started in the 6th minute as Piggott swung in a corner from the right which appeared to have crossed the line before the keeper pushed it against the bar. Two minutes later it was Piggott again, playing a neat wall pass before caressing the ball into the far corner with his left foot. On 20 minutes it was 3 – 0 as Piggott swung in another corner from the right which was headed home by Smith.

Horrabridge regrouped and tried desperately to make headway against a firm Queen defensive unit but to no avail and on 41 minutes found themselves further in arrears as Curtis Evans joined in the goal fest slotting his team’s fourth.

The half time stats told you all you needed to know about the dominance shown by this Queen and Constitution team who had 15 attempts, 7 on target against 0 for Horrabridge.

The second half started with Q & C dominant and within two minutes Tornado Bello had put his team five up with a delightful chip over the keeper from just inside the box. It was soon to be six nil as in the 54th minute Ray Spear raced into the box to pass the ball into the net with his left foot.

Horrabridge had hardly seen anything of the ball but, to be fair to them, when they did have it they tried to play their passing game and held their heads up. Unfortunately, they were unable to live with the sustained pace that the Queen players put into their game which resulted in a further three goals.

In the 65th minute Horrabridge, unable to clear their lines, were punished again as Danny Zalick drove the loose ball home from the edge of the box. That was followed in the 77th minute by an excellent team goal, Bello playing a number of wall passes in the box before rolling the ball to Lee Coxon to slot into the empty net.

Eight minutes from full time Bello got his second, rounding the keeper to tap in goal number nine to complete the rout.
