Moors Youth 2 - 1 SB Frankfort Youth - Devon U15 Girls County Cup Final 2018

Torbay Financial Services Under Fifteen Girls Devon Cup Final

Moors Youth 2 - 1 SB Frankfort Youth

8/5/2018

This is a rematch of last season’s U14 Final which saw SB Frankfort emerge as winners winning by seven goals to one but both teams have had a very good league season so the match was teed up to be a tight contest.

SB seemed to had settled the quickest and started to pass the ball forward looking to get off to a good start and won the first corner after two minutes. Mia Commerstock took the kick and put in a very dangerous ball which fizzed across the box and went just wide.

Following the initial onslaught Moors settled and had their first real chance in the sixth minute when Captain, Connie Pengelly, hit a snap shot which went just wide of the SB post.

SB thought they had the first goal when Mia Combstock had a shot which tucked into the bottom corner only for it to be ruled offside.

SB were looking very confident and playing really good football and this came to fruition when a good ball was played into Libby Lawton who stroked the ball home after ten minutes.

Moors looked to hit back when Kathryn Heard hit a fine strike but unfortunately it went straight into the SB’s keeper Maisie Frickleton arms.

Moors got their equaliser from a free kick on the edge of the penalty area which Pengelly cracked in giving Fricleton no chance.

Moors now looked to be the dominant team and Sacha Henderson had a snap shot which the SB keeper saved well.

SB were on the defensive but it was breached again in the twenty-third minute when the ball fell to Jordie Floyd who buried the ball in the bottom corner of the SB net.

SB looked to have hit back when last season finals player of the match Bethany Everson planted a goal bound shot a fraction over the bar.

Moors Youth had grown into this match and were looking very good but defending champions SB had not given up and shortly before half time Everson broke down the right laid ion a cross but couldn’t find an SB player to finish the move.

The fourth official showed there would be one minute of added time, but nothing materialised, and the referee blew for half time.

The second half began but neither team could take full control and it wasn’t until the forty-eighth minute when Lawton had a chance to double her and SB’s total but good last ditch defending by Madi Walker manged to clear the ball.

Moors broke down the middle in the fifty-second minute, but the defence stood firm and SB broke through Olivia Nelson whose shot was cleared on the goal line by Willow Allery keeping their narrow lead.

In the sixty-second minute an incident occurred which could have had far reaching consequences for Moors when Pengelly broke and fired in a cross shot which keeper Frickleton stretched for but didn’t touch and the referee gave a goal kick.

The fourth official indicated that there would be four minutes of added time.

However in the final minute SB attacked but Bird pulled off a superb double save.

The referee blew the final whistle seeing Moors Youth win the Torbay Financial Services Under 15 Girls County Cup the presentation followed at which Moors Sacha Henderson was named player of the match.
