Devon FA U16 Boys Leave Berks and Bucks FA Empty Handed

Match Report - Berks & Bucks FA 4 - 0 Devon FA U16's - Sunday 12th November 2017 - @Slough Town FC

Devon U16’s boss, Neil Saunders and his young team came back to Devon on Sunday afternoon empty handed.

A tough trip up to Berks & Bucks FA was the next destination for our U16 Boys Representative side in the South & West Counties Championship.

Unfortunately for our young lads they couldn’t make it two wins from two games, as they eventually lost 4-0 to the hosts.

The match began with Devon going straight on the attack, winning the first corner of the match, the resulting corner was a little strong and went over the Devon players still coming to terms with the strong breeze.

Keeping on the positive start Devon forced another corner in the fourth minute, this time it was taken short and Captain, Jaden Wood, gave himself a better angle for the cross but it was cleared by the home defence.

In the 8th minute, Berks & Bucks played some quick and effective football and were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from goal, Devon’s keeper Bartosz Zarzychi was bright enough to turn the ball away with a fine save.

The home team were now pressing hard but the Devon defence held tight but were finding it hard to get an attack together.

In the twenty-fifth minute the hosts attacked down their right wing and were awarded another free kick twelve yards out, Maidenhead’s winger James Dirkin lined it up, hitting a powerful shot around the Devon wall and into the top of the net to give Berks & Bucks a one nil lead.

Only moments later, Devon forced another corner kick but unfortunately it was over hit, Berks & Bucks counter attacked down their left and force Bartosz into yet another good save to keep the score at 1-0.

The referee added two minutes to the first half with little action to report on – the first half concluded with the home side leading 1-0.

Straight from the restart Berks & Bucks, playing in their home strip of light blue and white, looked to stamp their authority on the match and went on the attack which put the Devon defence on the back foot but they held tight.

In the fifty-sixth minute Devon’s goalkeeper Bartosz was called into action pulling off yet another fine save from a header by the home team’s impressive centre forward Tyrease Weeks.

Two minutes later they attacked down their left with their skilful winger Kyran Odell winning a corner kick, the resulting corner feel to Berks & Bucks forward Hicham Boucharab, he rose powerfully,  heading home to give the hosts a two goal lead.

Minutes later, a major mix up in the Devon defence saw Bartosz pick the ball up, the referee blew his whistle deeming it a back pass.

The free-kick was eventually cleared, however, the referee stopped play again and ordered a retake which puzzled both the Devon defenders and supporters. Retaking the free-kick, Berks & Bucks’ very own James Dirkin powerfully slotted the ball home to increase their lead.

With two minutes remaining, the home team attacked through their midfielder Sam Smith, his shot unfortunately squirmed under Bartosz’s body for Berks & Bucks fourth goal.

The match finished with the home team winning the South & West Counties Championship fixture four-nil and keeping their one hundred percent record intact and inflicting Devon’s first defeat.

Congratulations to Berks & Bucks FA for their very impressive win, plus for their brilliant hospitality. For the young lads of Devon FA and Neil Saunders, commiserations and there's always another game to make things right.
