Groundsman of the Year 2017

Steve Hooper of Kingsteignton AFC becomes ‘Groundsman of the Year’ for 2017

On behalf of Devon FA we’d like to congratulate Steve Hooper of Kingsteignton AFC for winning ‘Groundsman of the Year 2017’.

Throughout the years he’s been a credit to the club with his continued hard work. The game would be nothing without the people who help maintain pitches and look after the groundwork.

Following his achievement of becoming ‘Groundsman of the Year’ the club have now been successful through funding from the County FA, Football Foundation and other partners to purchase a brand new Utility Tractor. This new tractor will only enhance the facility Steve and his team can provide the club.

The Devon DIY Programme started earlier this year and thanks to the injection of money being distributed by the programme we can announce the grant of £2000 was part of buying the tractor for Steve and Kingsteignton AFC.

The funding from Devon DIY Programme, Football Foundation, Kingsteignton Town Council, Teignbridge Council and other club members will enable Kingsteignton AFC & Kingsteignton AFC Youth to purchase a much needed tractor to help with the grass cutting and ground maintenance on the much used football pitch in Broadway Road, Kingsteignton.

Vice Chairman of Kingsteignton AFC, Gordon Bates, is proud of the achievements of the club and especially his groundsman; “Winning groundsman of the year is a fantastic achievement by our dedicated team. It is very rewarding to hear the compliments received by visiting teams on the high standard of our pitches and for this also to be recognised by the Devon FA is the icing on the cake.

“Everyone at the club is delighted at winning this award!”

The funding will help the club and groundwork dramatically, with the insurance of a new tractor maintaining their already high standards.

Paul Morrison, CEO of Devon FA, congratulates Steve and Kingsteignton by saying; “The results of our Devon DIY Programme will be a huge help for Steve and his new toy. His reward of a new tractor is down to his hard work and dedication to grassroots football.

“We are sure he’ll love the accolade of ‘Groundsman of the Year’ and he fully deserves it.

“All the very best to Steve and Kingsteignton AFC, now and for the future."
