Devon FA Announce New Womens County Cup Structure
The Devon County Football Association can confirm changes to the structure of the Women’s County Cup competitions, with the aim of modernizing and enhancing the experience of those involved.
Following conversations with stakeholders from across the game, it has become evident that the current structure of the Women’s County Cup competitions no longer meets the needs of participating teams. To address these concerns, the County FA have made the following changes:
A New, Third Competition
This new competition, yet to be named, will be the highest standard of Cup for the female game in the county. To be eligible for entry, clubs must compete in the FA Women’s National League Division One South or above. The inaugural competition will feature Plymouth Argyle Women and Exeter City Women facing off in the final at Coach Road.
2. Updates to the Women’s Premier Cup
The Women’s Premier Cup will be expanded to include development teams from any club in the top four tiers (FA Women’s National League Division One South and above), and will remain open for entry to teams from the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier and Division One South.
3. The Graddon Vending Women’s Senior Cup
The Graddon Vending Women’s Senior Cup will continue with its current format, except for the promotion of development teams to the Premier Cup. This adjustment will establish a clear three-tier structure for women’s County Cup competitions in Devon.
Chris French, CEO said: “The development of the Women’s game in Devon over the past five years has seen substantial growth in our team numbers, alongside our teams in the FA Women’s National League becoming part of their respective professional clubs. These changes in our competition will provide improved opportunities for players off all abilities in our prestigious County Cup Competitions.”
