Devon FA Official 3G Opening

We were delighted to open our 3G facility officially on Friday

On Friday 14th January 2022, we welcomed  Devon FA staff, board & council members, sponsors, partners, local authorities, club, league and FA representatives to attend the official opening of our 3G facility at Coach Road in Newton Abbot.

The day started with a welcome from Devon FA Chairman, Bernard Leach, thanking all the guests for attending. Speeches followed from Devon FA, CEO, Paul Morrison and Matt Barrett, Devon FA’s 3G facility manager, detailing the journey we had been on in building our new 3G pitch, and how the new facility helps local communities, clubs and leagues, by providing football to all ages and abilities.

The presentation was concluded by Sue Hough, the Chair of the National Game Board, who explained how the facility was beneficial to Devon, and also outlined how the facility met several strategic priorities, including retaining, enhancing and developing new facilities.

The presentation continued, with a speech from David Fursdon, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, our special guest for the day, who explained his delight that such a great facility is based in Devon.

Following the presentation, we had several events on the pitch, with all ages being represented. Waldon Athletic Disability team had a training session, Age UK Devon Walking Football faced Torquay United Walking Football team, and our Women’s and Girls Officer, Matt Hodgson, hosted a Girls Primary School tournament, with Canada Hill, Bradley Barton and Blackpool Primary School all attending.

We also had football freestyler, Dan Magness who showcased his skills and also hosted a skills session for the Primary School children.

It was brilliant day for the County, and we are proud to have finally officially opened Coach Road’s 3G after the struggle of the last 2 years.

Devon FA Chief Executive, Paul Morrison had this to say following the opening: “Our dream has finally become a reality thanks to the support of Teignbridge District Council and the Football Foundation. It’s terrific to see our football family and the community all enjoying the benefits of using our All-Weather Pitch”.

Chris French, Devon FA’s County Development Manager, added: “It was excellent to share this landmark day for the County FA with our stakeholders, partners and local community who all will be part of this facility and future football facilities in Teignbridge and around the Devon”.
