10 year celebration

The Devon Ability Counts League reaches its 10th season providing Football opportunities for over 500 players with disabilities in Devon.

The Devon Ability Counts League was formed in the 2009/10 season as a localised opportunity for disabled Football teams to play league festivals and tournaments in Devon.

Investment by the FA helped move from Regional Disability Football Leagues to County Pan-Disability Football Leagues which has seen the league grow to over 40 adult and 25 youth disability Football teams. More recently the league as developed a Female Disability Division in the 2016/17 season with 6 female disability teams in the league for the current season.

Chris Stephens, Devon Ability Counts League Chairman comments on the success of the league:

“It’s a fantastic achievement for the league to reach 10 years as Devon’s Disability Football League and the league continues to grow season after season.

We have teams from across Devon taking part in monthly league festivals (Sundays) with teams playing across 8 divisions at their ability level. We have teams in higher divisions (7-a-side) with hearing impairments, mental health and learning disabilities and lower divisions (5-a-side) with severe learning disabilities, physical disabilities and Downs Syndrome to ensure that everyone has a fun, Football experience at their ability level. It’s my 7th season as league chairman and I’m looking forward to another great season of Disability Football”

The adult disability league has central venue fixtures for the 2018/19 season in Cullompton, Tavistock, Chudleigh and Newton Abbot. Children’s disability teams access festivals in their area which includes Plymouth, Tavistock, Exeter, Exmouth, Torbay and Mid Devon.

The Devon Ability Counts League kicks off for its 10th season on Sunday 16th September at Devon County Football Association, Coach Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 1EJ and welcomes spectators to come and visit to find out more about Disability Football.
