U11 Danone Cup A Great Success

Last week, Paignton Community and Sports Academy hosted the two County Finals of this season’s Under 11 Danone Cup.

The large schools section of the competition took place on Thursday and saw eight schools participate from all over Devon. Schools were separated into two groups, with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.

After some entertaining and end-to-end group stage fixtures, Sherwell Valley and Montpelier progressed from Group A, whilst Wynstream and Manor Primary advanced from the other group. Exeter School, Langtree, Newport Community and Curledge Street were the other participating schools.

Group A winners Sherwell Valley beat Manor Primary 2-0 in the first of the semi-finals and Montpelier won 1-0 against Wynstream in a very close encounter. Montpelier went on to defeat Sherwell in the final, with just the one goal separating the two teams.

Congratulations to Montpelier, who progress to represent Devon in the regional finals, but well done to all schools who participated in the finals.

The U11 Danone Girls County Final saw six teams participate in a round-robin format; Bickleigh Down, High View, Sherwell Valley, Curledge Street, Ilfracombe and Sticklepath.

After arguably the highest standard of Danone Girls County finals in recent years, Ilfracombe clinched the crown with four victories and a draw, with Sticklepath pipping Bickleigh Down into second place by just a single point.

Congratulations to Ilfracombe, who will represent Devon, but once again well done to all of the girls who took part in a fantastic finals event.
