Tom Sampson Devon FA Representative on The FA Council

Following our Annual General Meeting a few weeks ago, we are delighted to announce that the new Devon FA Representative on the Football Association Council is Tom Sampson.

Tom, who lives in Plymouth, has been with the County as a Council Member since 2011 but previously served the County well in many roles.

For many years Tom has been very passionate about refereeing and was formerly a Referee Tutor, Assessor and Mentor.
Speaking to Tom, he gave us some background knowledge on his childhood and personal life; “Away from football I work for Babcock International in Plymouth as a Project Planning Manager, on a personal note I live in Plymouth, married and have three amazing daughters.

“During my childhood I played Schools Boys football, before moving to youth football, then senior football in Plymouth and South-East Cornwall. I played in the Plymouth Combination league, Plymouth & District football league and the East Cornwall Premier league. I am currently the Vice Chairman of the Devon Wednesday League.”

As well as being a player back in his day, Tom also recalls his time as a referee in Devon; “I started refereeing in my early 30’s and progressed into the Western League and became an assistant on the Panel League and am still refereeing in the DJM.

“I became a Referee Instructor in 2000, as well as an FA licensed Tutor and Observer on the Contributory and Supply League.”

In his present life, Tom works extremely hard for the County, being available for many events and committee’s to help support the future of Devon County FA. He continued by talking about his current involvement in football; “I have been a DCFA Councillor for the past six years, and have been actively involved on the Referees, Disciplinary, and Chartered Standard committees. I also support the Devon Cups Committee, helping with their finals programme.

“I am the West Area Co-Ordinator and a Director of DCFA having joined the board in November 2016. In June this year, I was privileged to be elected as the FA Representative for Devon FA.

“I look forward to travelling to Wembley with the backing of Devon County behind me.”

Tom has been recently informed by the FA that he will serve upon the FA Referees Committee and also Rules and Sanctions, we wish Tom well and trust he will fly the Devon FA flag well when he visit Wembley.
