Devon FA and Living Options Devon join forces as Charity Partners

Devon FA can announce Living Options Devon will be their Charity Partner for the upcoming 2017/18 season

Last season, Children Hospice South West, based in Barnstaple, were the charity partner for the county football association, raising £2000 for the local charity.

After consideration Devon FA will team up with Living Options Devon to help raise awareness and bring new financial benefits for the charity.

Living Options Devon (LOD) is a disability charity based in Exeter, working to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people (who use British Sign Language) can live the life they choose. We are run and led by disabled people (80% of our Board and volunteers, and over 50% of employees are disabled or Deaf) which means that we have first-hand experience of the issues facing disabled people in Devon.

Living Options Devon empowers disabled and Deaf people to overcome barriers such as discrimination, access issues, social isolation, communication barriers and lack of opportunities allowing disabled people to live the lives they want, enjoy independence, gain employment, to know their rights and to find the courage to voice those rights.

Every year over 8,000 disabled and Deaf people benefit from our charitable activities which include advocacy, victim support, Deaf Campaigning service, an equipment and support service for people with sensory loss, an off-road mobility scooter hire scheme and much more! Peter Swain OBE, Living Options Devon’s Chair of Trustees said: “We are delighted to be selected as Devon FA’s charity partner this season. Living Options Devon is founded on the belief that all disabled and Deaf people should have the same opportunities as others.

“Having worked with the Devon FA previously, including to deliver British Sign Language training for referees, we know they have similar values. This new partnership provides an exciting opportunity for Living Options Devon. Not only will it provide vital support for our charitable projects so we can support more local disabled people, but I believe it will also help spark conversations around improving opportunities for disabled and Deaf people, both in sport and beyond”.

Devon FA hopes to raise the awareness of LOD by involving the charity in fundraising events, award evenings and more.
Bucket collections, raffles, auctions and many other fundraising events will be on the agenda for Devon FA.

Chairman of Devon FA, Bernard Leach, had this to say on the recent charity partnership becoming official; “Devon FA is delighted to have Living Options Devon as our charity partner for the upcoming 2017/18 season, as we are aware of the great work they do for the disabled and deaf people in Devon.

“We have the largest number of disabled players in the South West; it’s a very good organisation for us at DCFA to support throughout the year at many events. We very much look forward to raising a substantial amount to help them in their good work in the County.”
