Paignton Community & Sports Academy New Referees

11 New Referees Complete Their Training

Following a week of intense training and learning 11 students from across South Devon have completed the full FA basic refereeing course. The...

The next stage for the students is to complete 6 mentored matches before gaining the award.  Following that they will have the opportunity to officiate in the Pioneer Youth League who are now requiring match officials at under 11’s next season.

Rob Payne (Football Development Officer) commented on the success of the course:  “What’s particularly pleasing to see is the attitude of the students and their willingness to learn.  Credit has to be given to Connor and Ben who are current students at PCSA who have played an integral part in the delivery of the course.  They have acted as role models to the students being success stories from the previous courses”.

Kingsley Burrows (Student from PCSA) commented on the course saying “It has made me understand football more, not just from the player’s point of view but also the referees.  All three tutors were really good showed you what to do out on the pitch in a relaxed way.  I want to use this qualification to go on to referee Pioneer Youth League games and hopefully further in the future”.

All 11 candidates were fully involved throughout the course and they were a delight to be with. This course has further enhanced the refereeing partnership with the Paignton Community & Sports Academy and with the Pioneer Youth League who have both been a great help in getting this course together. A special mention must be made of Connor & Ben who tutored on the course who only a few seasons ago were on this course themselves!  Jason Haywood (Referee Development Officer)
