The FA Goalkeeping Coaching Award (Level 1)

Awarded by the Football Association, this course is a nationally recognised qualification providing candidates with an ability to organise and develop key aspects of goalkeeping coaching related to basic individual techniques.

This course is open access available to any persons (over the age of 16 years) who want to improve their ‘technical’ knowledge of goalkeeping.

The course is delivered over a 3 day period involving tutor demonstrations and a number of theory modules.

Practical demonstrations:

• Specific Goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs
• Footwork
• The ‘Set’ position
• General handling techniques
• Diving saves – catching / deflecting / parrying
• Dealing with 1 v 1
• Dealing with crosses

Candidates should also hold the following qualifications:

• Emergency First Aid
• FA Safeguarding Children

These will be required before the candidate can be certificated for the course.

To successfully complete the course, all candidates must attend all sessions and successfully complete a practical assessment.

On completion of the course, the competent coach will be able to:
• Coach basic individual technique
• Understand how to develop and improve the Goalkeeper’s technique
• Plan and prepare progressive technical practices
• Maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches
• Maintain the high standard of conduct to promote Association Football
