Devon has hundreds of football clubs across the County participating in men’s, women’s, youthgirls and disability football leagues.  The majority of clubs have The FA’s charter standard award, and Devon FA provide coaching courses and regular coach support around the County.

Starting a new club?  Simple advice below – for more information contact Devon FA on 01626 332077 or email info@devonfa.com

• Clubs must appoint a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary to enable the club to function within County FA rules. Youth football clubs must also have a Welfare Officer.  See here for advice on volunteer recruitment.
• Clubs should plan and budget for the season ahead, including consideration to funding support or any membership fees and subs you may need to help meet your costs.  Your Club may need also to set up a club bank account.
• New clubs and teams need to affiliate with Devon County FA and register with the league they wish to join.  Club Public Liability and Personal Accident insurance cover can be purchased with affiliation.  For more information contact mark.buley@devonfa.com / 01626 323561
• Arrange pitch hire – the majority of football played where clubs do not have their own ground is on school or local authority sites.
• Register your players with the league and Devon FA and ensure they all have a player ID card.
• Purchase/obtain a playing kit.  Existing Charter Standard Youth Clubs can obtain a free kit annually from Nike.
• We advise all teams to have a qualified first aider and first aid kit amongst their coaches / volunteers / players. Devon FA run coaching courses and emergency aid courses and you can book online.
• Fixtures are generally coordinated by your leagues fixture secretary.  Often for home games the home team will need to arrange hire of the pitch, supply match balls, and notify opponents and match officials of the location of the venue.  Be sure you know your leagues’ rules and contact your league secretary if you need a copy of these.
