Vospers are the new holders of the Devon Intermediate Cup following a 2 - 0 win over Chulmleigh. Chulmleigh though has the better of the opening exchanges creating six good chances in the first ten minutes but they could not get the goal their dominance deserved.
On two minutes a Chulmleigh free kick taken by Mark Burgess went just over the bar and a minute later Jack Lee unleashed a fierce drive which was saved by the Vospers keeper Gary Richards. After six minutes a long throw by Chulmleigh's Will Martin found Lee who set up Chris Andrews and the strikers shot could only be pushed for a corner by the diving keeper Richards. The resultant corner kick by Burgess found Robert Scott who produced another good save from Richards and, on 10 minutes the lively Scott who had a brilliant first half set off on a long run through the heart of the Vospers defence which ended when he was bought down and a free kick by Burgess hit the Vospers wall.
Vospers then had a couple of chances but a Wayne Powney shot and a header from Ashley Ring from a jake Bridgeman free kick went just over.
In the twenty fourth minute back came Chulmleigh with Scott sending Andrews away on the right flank and the strikers cross come shot found Martin but his effort was saved by keeper Richards. A minute later Andrews again set up Martin, this he composed himself before firing a low shot which struck the Vospers post.
Vospers then had a good spell, Powney shot just wide and with another effort broke through the Chulmleigh defence only to be denied by a last ditch tackle by Burgess. Bridgeman had a free kick saved by the Chulmleigh keeper Steve Johns and Shaun Powney who was voted man of the match almost deceived keeper Johns when his shot bounced awkwardly on the hard surface.
Chulmleigh had two more chances to before half time, Lee played a short free kick to Burgess who managed to shoot past the Vospers wall but the alert keeper Richards saved at the far post. The talented Scott was then in a good position but he unselfishly squared the ball to Andrews only for a Vospers defender to clear.
At the start of the second half Vospers were quickly out of the starting blocks and Lloyd Russell with a daisy cutting shot was just fractionally wide if the far post. Then on 48 minutes Wayne Powney with a delightful ball set up Austin Beeney to fire Vospers ahead with a shot into the far corner of the net.
Chulmleigh's Andrews was then just off target with a shot and a header but at the other end a free kick by Bridgeman was punched away by the Chulmleigh keeper Johns and Russell shot just wide.
On 71 minutes Vospers had a goal bound shot by Shaun Powney blocked, Scott Blatchford had a goal disallowed for off side and Russell had a shot pushed for a corner.
Good movement between Chulmleigh's Andrew and Martin resulted in a volley from Andrews going just wide and Scott got the ball in the net but this was also ruled offside.
The last five minutes was all Vospers, Russell and Andrew Neal had shots blocked in succession, Neal's header was saved by keeper Johns but, in time added Neal hit the roof of the Chulmleigh net with a header from Bridgeman's free kick to lift the cup for Vospers.
