Following on from extensive school-club link work that has been undertaken in Plymouth throughout the 2009/2010 season, the Devon County FA in partnership with the Devon and Junior Minor League and its membership clubs held a U10 Girls Only Festival at Plymstock School on Sunday 16th May. The festival ran from 10am - until 12 noon, and saw 20 girls from 3 different teams (AFC Plympton, Tamarside Youth and Tavistock Youth) compete in a friendly festival.
As part of a drive in recruitment in the Plymouth area, the Devon County FA teamed up with the Plymstock and Sir John Hunt School Sports Partnerships, Devon Junior Minor League and Local Charter Standard Clubs. This project ensured all primary schools throughout Plymouth have been offered girls only football oppourtunties at school years 3 and 4, with exit routes into local Charter Standard Clubs offering Girls Only Football. The following links have been set up
- Plymstock - Morley Rangers
- Tamarside - Tamarside Youth
- Hele/Ridgeway - AFC Plympton
- John Kitto - YMCA Kitto Centre
- Eggbuckland - Activate
- Stoke Dameral - Keyham Kolts
- Tavistock - Tavistock Community College (through Neil Jordain - FDO)
- Sir John Hunt - Plymouth Marjon Old Suttionians
The Devon County Football Association would like to extend its thanks to all the partners involved within this project - This project will be ongoing through the 2010/2011 to support the development of the Female game throughout Plymouth.
