Late Fightback Denies Devon

Hampshire 4 - 4 Devon Played at Winklebury Basingstoke on Saturday 13th Februaty 2010

Hampshire came from behind with two late goals to snatch a draw out of the jaws of defeat in this 4 - 4 thriller ay Winklebury.

The match started at a fast pace but neither side could create any chances until the 18th minute and at that stage it would have been difficult to visualise what a thriller this match would turn out to be.

The first chance fell to Hampshires Brady Norton (Havant & Waterlooville) who with a fierce 20 yard shot brought an acrobatic flying save out of Devon goalkeeper Kurtis Parkin (Bratton Fleming) who palmed the effort for a corner. Parkin was again in action in the 20th minute. leaping high intot he air to pluck a Jaques Bernard (Christchurch Youth) out of the air.

After 23 minutes Hampshire were unlucky when a rocket of a shop from Serge Fon (VT Youth) crashed against the Devon crossbar, but a minute later Fon recovered to cotton on to a loose ball and fire it past Parkin to give Hampshire the lead.

Devon fought back to equlaise in the 25th minute when a long free kick by Dawlish Towns Luke Martin was headed into the net over the Hampshire goalkeeper  Will Robertson (Gosport Borough) by Tiverton Towns Sam Box.

Hampshire then produced two chances, firstly a free kick by Fon was saved low down by Parkin and Bernard shot over when faced with a one on one situation with the keeper.

In the 28th minute Devon's Josh French (Seaton Town) had a speculative shot go over the bar but six minutes later he made amends by putting Devon ahead when he cut in from the right to shoot past the Hampshire keeper Roberston.

On the stroke of half time Devon had a further chance to score but Topsham Towns Tom Baxter headed over.

Hampshire came out fresh after the break and drew level in the 53rd minute when a cross by Sam Griffin (Christchurch Youth) found Bernard and the strikers first time effort found the net.

4 minutes later and Devon keeper Parkin bought off another good save, finger tipping a nOrton shot round the post.

After 65 minutes a shot from Devon's Baxter ran agonisingly wide of the post but in the 72nd minute Devon went 3 - 2 when a lob from Ryan Richards (Tamarside) was again nodded over the head of the Hampshire keeper by Box for his second.

On 82 minutes Richards embarked on a dazzling solo run and produced a fine finish to put Devon 4 - 2 ahead.

Both sides made changes but then came the Hampshire fight back as they netted in the 84th and 86th minutes. Firstly a centre came over to Eastleigh Youth's Alex Easton who was completely unmarked and the striker fired past substitute keeper Joe Moore (Elmore). Then came the dramatic equaliser as Fon scored his 2nd with a shot from the edge of the area to earn Hampshire a share of the points.
