Devon Girls Football League
The Devon Girls Football League are the first league in Devon to achieve the prestigious FA Charter Standard League status.
The Devon FA are delighted to announce the first league in the county to attain Charter Standard League Status as the Devon Girls Football League. They have recently been awarded the status and are one of only 40 leagues in the country to gain it thus far. This quality kite mark is recognition of their work and commitment at a grassroots level.
The league predominantly includes teams in the South and East of the county. They offer girls only football to age ranges from U12s to U16s. They are also currently developing girl’s only opportunities at U11 and U10.
The League currently has 35 teams and Wendy Humphreys (League Secretary for the DGFL) commented: "We are delighted to have achieved recognition as an FA Charter Standard League and being the first makes this equally fulfilling in its achievement. However, the hard work really does start here and the recognition from The FA has now established a benchmark for the league and the management committee to succeed. The formulation of the Football Development Plan and the help of Devon FA will assist and guide us to achieve our goals”
Mark Young, Girls and Women’s Football Development officer for the Devon FA, re-iterated his delight and added: "The Devon Girls Football League have formulated an extensive Football Development Plan that focuses on the key issues within The FA’s National Game Strategy. The supports of the clubs, coaches, players and parents will be crucial to the successful delivery of this plan going forward”
"They have looked at innovative ways in supporting and increasing the number of players and teams at a local level, particularly within East and South Devon. The football development plan also focuses on the game's workforce; its volunteers, coaches and referees and offers a wide range of opportunities to support coach education and continual development.
"I am equally as delighted for Football in Devon and the clubs, teams and coaches within the local area who have a League and Management Committee that will challenge the barriers and create opportunities for all who wish to play football."
