10-2 victory for Somerset v Devon Women U18s.....

Devon 2 Somerset 10
Played at Elmore on Tuesday 16 October 2007

A rule change this season barring players from a Football League Club Academy playing in the competition saw Devon suffer their highest ever defeat in Women’s football losing 10-2 to Somerset.

In the 3rd minute Devon’s Jess Hooper (Cullompton Rangers) was unlucky not to score when her shot ran across the Somerset goalmouth and just wide of the post.

A minute later a shot from Somerset’s Helen Bleazard (Bristol Filton College) was deflected for a corner by Devon’s Samantha Pearson (Exeter College Dev Centre). From the corner Bleazard made amends by giving Somerset the lead.

8 minutes later Bleazard scored her second from a pass by Frome Town’s Lindsay Whitton.

In between Somerset’s keeper Amy Edwards punched away a great effort from Devon’s Chloe Roberts (Plymouth Argyle).

Devon reduced the arrears after 16 minutes when Roberts set up club colleague Rhianne Parsons to slot past Somerset keeper Edwards.

After 23 minutes Somerset went 3-1 up when Whitton scored the first of her four goals with a header from a cross by Sophie Wyatt (Bristol Filton College).

On 27 minutes Hooper again went close for Devon but a minute later Somerset scored again when Keynsham Town’s Charlotte Plumb broke away to slot past Michaela Phillips (Plymouth Argyle) in the Devon goal.

On the stroke of half time Somerset’s Bleazard completed her hat-trick giving Somerset a 5-1 lead.

Immediately after the break Somerset keeper Edwards saved brilliantly from Lola Sanchez (Exeter City).

During a 13 minute purple patch starting in the 50th minute Somerset’s Whitton scored 3 times making a score of 8-1.

After 67 minutes Roberts pulled a goal back for Devon from an Ellis Glanfield (Plymouth Argyle) cross.

Somerset went 9-2 up in the 83rd minute when Wyatt hit a rocket into the roof of the Devon net and 4 minutes later Plumb netted her second this time from the penalty spot to complete a well deserved 10-2 victory for Somerset.
