Women's Umbro 5s - The Devon FA in conjunction with Umbro, TESCOs and The National Sports Foundation have recently run a Female FA Umbro Fives Event at ISCA College in Exeter in May.
The local heat of the Exeter women’s Umbro Fives competition kicked off on the 1st May with 5 excited, dedicated teams signed up ready to do battle.
From the start of the competition it was clear that this local heat was going to be very tight, with 3 teams closely competing for 1st place. At the end of week one both Dawlish Town Ladies and Soup-a-Stars finished on level points, with Soup-a-Stars just leading on goal difference.
In week 2 South West Wonderers entered the competition, and started to play catch up as they won all of their starting fixtures, which quickly pushed them up to third place, overtaking Plainmoor Pink and Plainmoor Purple.
By the time it came down to the final week there was only 6 points separating the top 3 teams, which would lead to an exciting finish to the league. It quickly became a 2 horse race as Dawlish lost to Soup-a-Stars, which meant it would go down to the very last game between them and the South West Wonderers. Both teams knew that a win would almost guarantee them the league title, and in a close game the South West Wonderers ran out 2 – 0 winners. This meant that they had won the league on goal difference with only 5 goals separating the 2 teams.
