On England World Cup Day Buckland & Milber Sports Club held their own festival for just under 40 teams from Plymouth to Exeter, from under 7's to under 11's. With approxiamately 500 people attending, this had to of been the best tournament around. At the ground itself there was a sea of England flags, with Flags on all eighteen goals, corner flags and even a walk way to the field was a pathway of England bunting. The atmosphere was fantastic with the competitive ages winning their own World Cups decorated with red and white ribbons. Every child who entered went home with a certificate for entering the B&MSC World Cup; the under 7 & 8's also went home with medallions as they could not win the World Cup. We also had trophies for the Player of the tournament and team sportsmanship trophy.

The tournament had an electric atmosphere with every team who entered playing as a team in the 2010 World Cup, all the home teams played as South Africa. It was more exciting than the adults games and the sportsmanship from every player, coach and parent was second to none. We were proud to have everyone there!

The fun kicked off slightly late due to traffic light problems at Penn Inn Roundabout and it finished around 4. We at Buckland and Milber Sports Club would like to thank all the teams who entered and are proud to invite them all back again at our Pre Season Tournament on September 4th and 5th. The fun goes on and on!

We are now recruiting for all ages and our doors are open to all ages and abilities!

Come On England!

Paignton Community and Sports College hosted England Day on 12 June

The FA set the ‘England Day’ initiative up to coincide with the 1st game of the World Cup for England. In the words of Fabio Capello ‘Football means a lot to all of us and so England Football Day has been created as your chance to play, coach and celebrate our beautiful game’.

The event held PCSC’s 3G pitch involved 16 Charter Standard Club teams from across the county each representing a World Cup country. The morning saw four highly contested groups of four teams playing in a round robin. Of which eight progressed to the quarter finals and four countries progressed to the plate. The quarter finals saw high drama with 2 fixtures decided on penalty shootouts and a number of nail biting games.

England day culminated in the plate final and the World Cup final. The plate final was won 2-1 by Spain (Totnes and Dartington) who just managed to weather a Netherlands (Stoke Gabriel) come back. The final was contested by an unbeaten Uruguay (Buckland Athletic) and England (KM United) who had improved every game leading up to the final. England broke the deadlock with a well worked goal, neatly slotted home. However the unbeaten Uruguay were not to be turned over easily and despite some great saves from the England keeper managed to score twice and with the England Day world cup trophy.

Overall the day was a huge success , enjoyed by all with a great attitude and fair play shown throughout.

A big thank you went out to Connor Wooldridge,
Joe Baggott and Maria Bintcliffe who officiated throughout the day. All three Paignton Community and Sports College students were products of the FA referee course held earlier in
the year.

Plymstock School England Football Day
England Football Day

As part of the FA’s national England Football Day campaign to celebrate England’s participation in this year’s World Cup, festivals and tournaments were run across the country on Saturday 12 June.

Plymstock School Football Development Centre held an under 8 football festival for teams across the county. Six teams entered the festival playing five games over the two hour festival. The players were in high spirits enjoying the glorious sunny and warm weather and all trying to emulate the players taking part in South Africa at the moment.

Chris French, Football Development Officer said “The players really enjoyed playing against a number of teams all on the same day, you could see the players were all in the World Cup spirit already”
