Girls Schools County Cup

Feniton Football Club hosted the Devon Girls County Cup Final, on Thursday 30th April 2009. The Finals Day brought together winners from the four regions throughout the County (North, South, East and West). The four finalists were drawn against each other making the semi final stage. The winners of these two semi finals would then provide the finalists.

U12
South Dartmoor took on Ivybridge, in the first semi final at the U12 Age Group, with Exmouth taking on Chulmleigh in the second. South Dartmoor and Exmouth both won their respective games to reach the final.

Ivybridge beat Chulmleigh 7-1 in the 3rd and 4th place play off final, with the game being closer than the score indicates. The final between South Dartmoor and Exmouth was an absolute cracker with both teams playing some excellent football. It was no surprise when the referee blew the full time whistle that there was nothing to separate the teams. Extra time also provided the same outcome. Finally, Exmouth claimed the U12 title winning 3-2 on penalties.

U14
The 3rd and 4th place playoff was contested between Ivybridge and Holsworthy, as they were beaten in the semi finals by Exmouth and South Dartmoor respectively. Ivybridge claimed the third place position with a fantastic 3-0 victory over their North Devon counterparts, credit must be given to Holsworthy for their contribution in what was a very competitive game.
The final in the U14 age group was contested in identical fashion to the U12 between Exmouth and South Dartmoor, again these teams could not be separated by normal time, nor could they by extra time. This time South Dartmoor edged out Exmouth 4-2 on penalties to claim the U14 title.

U14 County Champions: South Dartmoor

U16
The King’s School and South Dartmoor kicked off the U16 finals day, setting the standards for a fantastic day of football. A closely contested 1-1 draw, after both normal time and extra time led to the first penalty shoot out of the day. This was won by Kings who progressed onto the final. There opponents in the final were Ivybridge who overcame a very stubborn Ilfracombe in the second semi final.
Ilfracombe and South Dartmoor shared the spoils in the 3rd and 4th play-off with the final result ending 0-0. Due to the tight time constraints, if 3rd and 4th play offs remained equal at full time then the spoils were shared.
In the final King’s and Ivybridge could not be separated by normal time, 1-1 the full time score. So like both the U12 and U14 finals extra time was played. However this time penalties were not needed as Ivybridge scored twice in extra time to collect the Under 16 title defeating Kings 3-1.
