Get into Football Officer - Plymouth

What is Get into Football?

The Get into Football programme is a National programme launched by The Football Association with the aim of increasing adult (16+) participation by 20,500 players playing at least once a week by March 2013.

Funding for this programme has been obtained through Sport England, Local Area Funding and The Football Association.

The Football Association has highlighted this area of football participation as a key focus for improvement. Over the past five years there has been a large decline in the number of 11 v 11 teams playing affiliated football in the country. This has led to research into why people are leaving our national game.

Following the research The FA has employed 33 Get into Football Officers based across the Country each working within a specific Local Authority. Devon FA in conjunction with Plymouth City Council has employed Christopher French to work in the Plymouth Local Authority and he will be working with a large number of partners to encourage new and old players to ‘Get into Football’.

The programme will be using new initiatives, these include ‘turn up and play’ sessions for adults, new leagues being formed and creating stronger community links across Plymouth.

To ensure you keep up to date with the exciting new programmes taking place in Plymouth please email Chris to be placed on the Get into Football mailing list.

Calling the People of Plymouth!
We are currently looking for information on the reasons why people aged 16 and over in Plymouth play or do not play football and what can we do to help more people play football and become active.

If you could take a couple of minutes to complete the Adult Participation Questionnaire (under related documents) and return to Chris French you will be helping to shape football provision in Plymouth.
