Disability Football in Devon Schools

Devon FA runs an Ability Counts football league for SEN and disabled pupils within special and mainstream schools with central venue fixtures throughout the year. The aim is to offer players the opportunity for regular involvement in football, with each School Sports Partnership hosting an event.

This season there will be a total of 9 events, running matches for teams with the following pupils:

  • Boys Years 9-11 (KS3/4)
  • Mixed Years 7-9
  • Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Girls Years 8-11 (KS3/4)

Remaining dates for the 2009/10 Academic Year are as follows:

  • 10th February 2010 (Brixham Community College)
  • 10th March 2010 (South Dartmoor, Ashburton)
  • 28th April 2010 (Braunton)
  • 19th May 2010 (Sir John Hunt, Plymouth)
  • 16th June 2010 (Cullompton)
  • Devon Youth Ability Games (Date & Venue tbc)

 

Ability Counts Schools League - Exeter Fixture

17 boys teams and over 20 girls played at the latest Schools Ability Counts Football event held on King George V playing fields in Exeter.

As with every event the results were of secondary importance to participation, but Pool A (KS4) saw Chelfham Mill run out winners. Pool B (KS3) saw Barley Lane school finish top ahead of Mount Tamar in 2nd. Pool C (KS3 Mixed) saw Southbrook School finish top, but Honiton Community College and Millwater School both gained their first wins in this category of football.

Also on the day over 20 girls from several schools joined a girls pitch with Devon FA providing a coaching session and friendly matches. An SEN / Disability football club for girls is starting on November 24th in Exeter.
