Ability Counts Clubs

Devon & Cornwall Ability Counts League

The Ability Counts league is for players with a disability who want to play football. The league has a pan-disability format, and caters for all levels of ability, and has mens, ladies, and junior football matches. Fixtures are held approximately once every six weeks during the season, with teams playing several matches during the day at each event. There are 4 mens division; the league and championship divisions feature sides from Devon and Cornwall, and fixtures are split between the two counties. At premiership level, players and teams also compete against clubs from Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Dorset, and fixtures are held at a central venue in Somerset.

There are a number of Ability Counts Clubs in Devon affiliated to Devon FA. Bideford Soccability

Bideford train on alternate Wednesday afternoons at Sandymere near Westward Ho.  The club now has around 20 players aged 17-60(!) and welcomes players of all abilities.

Exeter City Ability Counts FC

Exeter City Ability Counts FC is run through Exeter City Football in the Community scheme, and holds two training sessions a week. The club has five teams, with at least one in each division.

Exeter Horizon Club FC

Players for Exeter Horizon Club FC are members of the Horizon leisure Club in Exeter. The club runs a team in the League 2 division.

FreeSpirits FC

FreeSpirits FC are an enthusiastic team that play in League 1. The club is run by the Link-Up Volunteer Centre in Honiton.

Oakwood Utd

Oakwood United are a new team this season, and are made up of young adults who attend Oakwood Court College. The club has one team and plays in the League division.

Newton Abbot Soccability

Newton Abbot Soccability is a popular football club for children with severe learning difficulties and physical or sensory disabilities.  The club have achieved the Charter Standard Award, and offer football every Saturday.

Plymouth Argyle FiTDC

Plymouth Argyle FiTDC are a large disability football club that have been playing in the Ability Counts competitions for a number of seasons. In 2008/09 the Plymouth Argyle premiership side were National Ability Counts Champions. The club trains twice a week, and runs a total of seven mens teams, and junior teams for Under 16 and Under 12 players.

Plymouth Argyle Ladies FiTDC

Plymouth Argyle Ladies are a new team that are growing rapidly.  The club trains every week, and despite being one of the newest teams around, finished as high as 2nd at the National Ability Counts finals for ladies in July.

South Devon College Inspirations FC

South Devon College run a team in the Championship, and in partnership with Robert Owen Communities hold a weekly training session on Tuesday afternoons in Paignton.

South West Rovers Visually Impaired FC

South West Rovers are a men’s team for partially sighted players that train on alternate Wednesday evenings at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter. The team play in the National Visually Impaired Futsal League, and are open to new players.

Tavistock Specials

Tavistock Specials are a new club, and train on Monday evenings on the astroturf at Tavistock School.  The club runs two coaching sessions for adults and junior players.

Totnes & Dartington

Totnes & Dartington is a football club that run's on alternate Wednesday evenings for children and adults with Severe Learning Difficulties, and has close links with Bidwell Brook School.  The club runs a team in the League 2 men's division.
