Level 2 Goalkeeping Coaching Award

This course is intended for current holders of the UEFA ‘A’ Coaching Award / UEFA ‘B’ Coaching Award or The Football Association Coaching Certificate / 1st4 Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football, who wish to coach ‘goalkeepers’ at the following levels:

• Non-League level
• Junior/Youth level

Upon completion of the Course candidates will be able to:

• Coach basic individual techniques
• Understand how to develop and improve the goalkeeper’s technique
• Plan and prepare progressive technical practices
• Maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches
• Maintain the high standards of conduct to promote Association Football

The course is delivered over a 3 day period involving tutor demonstrations and a number of theory modules.

Practical Demonstrations

• Specific Goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs
• Footwork
• The ‘Set’ position
• General handling techniques
• Diving saves – catching / deflecting / parrying
• Dealing with 1 v 1
• Dealing with crosses
• Distribution – variation and technical principles

Theory

• The ‘Key Technical Factors of Goalkeeping’
• Log Book / Portfolio

Assessment

• Practical Sessions -
- 1 x 20 minute session: Technical Practice
- 1 x 20 minute session: Functional Practice

To successfully complete the course, all candidates must attend all sessions for the entire duration of the Course Programme and successfully complete the practical assessment.

All Candidates deemed competent will be awarded the:
‘FA Goalkeeping Coaching Certificate Level 2’
