This course is open access available to any persons (over the age of 16 years) who want to improve their ‘technical’ knowledge of goalkeeping - primarily for coaches who have already completed the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football and coaching in a club/school environment but this is not a prerequisite.
The course is delivered over a 3 day period involving tutor demonstrations and a number of theory modules.
Practical demonstrations:
• Specific Goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs
• Footwork
• The ‘Set’ position
• General handling techniques
• Diving saves – catching / deflecting / parrying
• Dealing with 1 v 1
• Dealing with crosses
Candidates should also hold the following qualifications:
• Emergency First Aid
• Safeguarding Children (Child Protection)
To successfully complete the course, all candidates must attend all sessions and successfully complete a practical assessment.
On completion of the course, the competent coach will be able to:
• Coach basic individual technique
• Understand how to develop and improve the Goalkeeper’s technique
• Plan and prepare progressive technical practices
• Maintain the health and safety of the players and other coaches
• Maintain the high standard of conduct to promote Association Football
